Physical literacy at our core

Purposeful movement, positive experiences

Our mission is simple: to help primary school children become confident, competent and motivated movers through high-quality physical literacy programmes.

Our philosophy

Enjoyment first, progress built in

Sport works best when children feel safe, capable and motivated to take part. We use that positive energy as the starting point for real skill development.

That is why every PlayOn Active session — in PE, after school or at camp — combines enjoyment, participation and personal development with clear learning aims.

The four pillars of physical literacy

The framework

Four pillars of physical literacy

Each pillar reinforces the others, helping children want to move, understand movement and develop the skills to do it well.

1

Confidence

The self-belief to take part, have a go, and not fear getting it wrong.

2

Competence

The movement skills and physical ability to participate with success.

3

Motivation

The genuine desire and enthusiasm to be active again and again.

4

Knowledge

Understanding why movement matters and how to live a healthy, active life.

Mastering the ABCs

Beneath every sport sit the same building blocks. We deliberately develop agility, balance and coordination so children have the physical foundation to take part with confidence.

  • Agility — changing direction and speed with control.
  • Balance — stability in movement and when still.
  • Coordination — moving different body parts together smoothly.

Get these right early, and every sport that follows becomes easier — and more enjoyable.

What makes us different

More than coaching — a development programme

Physical literacy framework

A consistent, intentional approach across everything we deliver.

Inclusion focus

Designed so every child, of every ability, is included and progresses.

Assessment tracking

We measure progress and report it clearly to schools and parents.

Progress reports

Parents see how their child is developing, not just that they attended.

Staff CPD support

We build capacity in school teams so the impact outlasts our visits.

Character & behaviour

Resilience, teamwork and respect developed naturally through sport.
